WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., Sept. 25, 2001 - Clickshare Service Corp.,
the premier transaction platform for privacy-protected
digital-content commerce, announced today that it had begun
managing the purchase of online newsletters offered by the
DenverPost.com.
A unit of Media News Group Inc., the nation's
seventh-largest newspaper publisher, DenverPost.com publishes
online newsletters such as Bronco Extra.
"It was not just the vision of federated, single sign-on access
to many content and audience-owning websites that moved us to
choose Clickshare," said Eric Grilly, VP, Interactive Media for
MediaNews Group. "It was the fact that Clickshare could deliver
an immediate solution for managing sale to our own users, on a
subscription basis, today."
The MediaNews agreement with Clickshare is part of a broader
agreement, which could lead to providing single sign-on,
multi-site user registration for 49 daily and 90 non-daily
MediaNews properties, the two companies said. On Sept. 10,
Clickshare began a similar service for the DallasNews.com unit
of Belo Corp.
"We're delighted to be supporting MediaNews as it reaches out
to consumers to provide timely, customized information in an
easy-to-use format such as email newsletters," said Nell
Fields, Clickshare's president and CEO. "Now, MediaNews can
provide its subscribers nationwide with a means to purchase and
enjoy enhanced services across its properties."
Fields said the Belo and MediaNews relationships are early
examples of what Clickshare feels is strong demand for a
universal sharing mechanism for selling content among multiple
customer groups, and protecting customer personal information.
The effort is in conjunction with PublishMail LLC, of Boulder,
Colo., which is delivering the newsletters and managing
customization of the service and has been providing Media News
Group with e-mail publishing services since 2000.
"DenverPost.com's integration of Clickshare's and PublishMail's
services brings ever greater flexibility and possibilities to
email publishing, online transactions, and consumer privacy,"
said James Tailer, president of PublishMail. "It's a model for
how two leading vendors can bring even greater value to
publishers." He called Clickshare's multi-site transaction
platform "unique."
"We're very pleased that the smooth coordination between
PublishMail and Clickshare enabled us to quickly launch a
premium service without extra stress on our own staff," added
Todd Engdahl, editor of DenverPost.com. "Like many Web sites,
we're very interested in experimenting with premium content
services, and the help of our vendors made it possible."
