WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. And GUILFORD, Conn., Feb. 19, 2002 -- Globe
Pequot Press, Inc., the leading specialty publisher of travel, outdoor
recreation, sports, how-to, cooking, and nature books, has selected
Clickshare Service Corp. to expand its distribution of digital-book
downloads, the two companies announced.
"We have already experimented with digital-downloading of books,"
said Patty Gallagher, Globe Pequot director of e-business development.
"Clickshare takes us to the next level by providing the technology for us to
share our titles with the customers of our major business partners without
the hassle or privacy issues associated with registering those users or
taking their credit-card numbers."
Globe Pequot will initially contribute four titles to the Clickshare
network of one-ID, one-password commerce collaborators, which include
newspapers, syndicators and specialty publishers. Among the newest titles
will be "The Hunter, the Hammer and Heaven", the just published novel by
Robert Young Pelton, about a motley trio of journalists who travel the most
war-ravaged countries on earth for insight into forces shaping our future.
The suggested price for the digital titles, to debut next month, is about
half the print versions.
"Globe Pequot's unique experience in niche publishing gives them the
insight to see the value of Clickshare's one-ID, one-password, multiple site
approach to content access and sales," said Nell Fields, Clickshare CEO.
"By joining the Clickshare Service, Globe Pequot instantly leverages our
existing customer base. And every new online reader contributes revenue to
Globe Pequot when they purchase other things via Clickshare - from crossword
puzzles to sports newsletters."
The Clickshare relationship will augment Globe Pequot's existing use
of Publications Unbound, a private, Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based e-book
distributor representing over 100 of the world's top travel guide
publishers.
