WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., March 1, 2004 -- Clickshare Service Corp. (www.Clickshare.com) today
announced that it has joined the Distributed Computing
Industry Association (DCIA), the non-profit trade association pursuing consensus in
working toward the paid and legal distribution of music and other digital content.
Clickshare is a commerce platform for Internet payment aggregation, an ideal environment for
legal exchange of digital content. It enables single-bill, multi-site payments for digital
content and commerce, with relationship management and privacy-enhancing features.
DCIA is engaged in developing standards and practices to advance innovative consumer-based
distribution system. Representing all sectors of the distributed computing industry, DCIA
membership comprises platform companies, content providers, and peer-to-peer operators.
"Clickshare is founded on our conviction that people will pay for what they enjoy if given
an easy and safe way to purchase digital content," said Clickshare CEO Rick Lerner. "We are
pleased that a voluntary industry association is dedicated to this same objective, and look
forward to cooperating to establish the best practices that will ensure the survival of the
music industry in the 21st century."
The announcement was made today at the Digital Music Forum, where Clickshare demonstrated
its solution in collaboration with BlueMaze Entertainment, DCide, Digital Containers, and
INTENT MediaWorks. Digital Media Forum, at The French Institute (59th Street and Park
Avenue) included five panels and three keynote addresses focused on the role of digital
technology in the future of music.
"Clearly P2P is a growing technology with massive potential benefits for creators and
consumers alike," said DCIA CEO Marty Lafferty. "Already progressive artists and labels are
adopting P2P for distributing their music. Clickshare delivers content owners a safe,
secure, and profitable affinity payment system for digital products, and we are delighted to
have them as our newest member."
Clickshare's CEO added: "Membership in DCIA is part of Clickshare's strategy to online
purchase of digital content. The Internet has for too long offered music file swapping,
often without paying the owners of the music. In Clickshare's network, buyers and sellers of
digital goods can easily, securely, and privately purchase music or other downloadable
products with a single click. With Clickshare's service, content owners protect themselves
while satiating customer's hunger for the latest song or book, and customers have a secure,
private way to make the purchase."
With its focus on privacy protection, Clickshare is ideal for the P2P businessplace. The
Clickshare Service empowers customers to choose from among any of the independent
Clickshare-enabled service providers and safeguard their personal and financial information.
Clickshare supports a variety of payment methods including: credit cards, debit cards,
wallets, ACH transfers, and appends to circulation invoices, phone bills, wireless bills and
ISP invoices. Able to handle small-valued purchases, which are typical of music downloads,
Clickshare can aggregate micropayments, then collect from the customer once the amount
reaches the level specified by the client.
The Digital Music Forum is addressing the business model for selling music online, and
exploring ways for the music industry to profit from legitimate uses of P2P. DCIA members
are companies focused on consumer behavior, adaption of new formats for music delivery, and
crafting a winning future for the world of online music sales.
